Characteristics of this specimen: This is a charming pink rhombohedral crystal of rhodochrosite, a signature mineral of Colorado. Our state mineral, in fact! These attractive pink crystals are a must for any crystal collection.
Care Notes: Rhodochrosite is a soft carbonate mineral, so please handle with care. It should be kept out of water, and away from abrasive minerals.
PHYSICAL: Rhodochrosite is a calcium carbonate mineral that gets its color from manganese—it forms a solid solution series with pink Mangano calcite. It is the state mineral of Colorado, and some of the world’s finest rhodo crystals are found in Sweet Home Mine, Alma, CO.
