FORMATION: Pyrite is an iron sulfide minerals, aka fool’s gold. Pyrite forms characteristic cubic (isometric) crystal habits, including cubes and octahedra. Alice Mine is part of the Alice-Yankee Hill district, about 7 miles from Central City (once known as the “richest square mile on earth”, for its abundant gold and silver deposits).
