Mineral Name: Uvarovite Garnet
Locality: Ural Region, Russia.
Dimensions: 0.50" x 0.69" (13mm x 18mm)
Characteristics of this specimen: Uvarovite is a rare member of the Garnet group, and is a rich and unusual variety of emerald green gem. It is the only true Chromium garnet. (That is, the only garnet variety which incorporates chromium into its specific chemical formula--however, other garnets may exhibit chromium impurities.) Uvarovite nearly always forms druzy or micro crystalline layers over a matrix; rarely does it form single crystals. This cluster is very small and aesthetically arranged, with the glittery crystals on a dark matrix layer. This is a special and unusual miniature cluster, and would make an excellent addition to any specimen or jewelry supply collection!
Garnet varieties include almandine, pyrope, spessartine, grossular, uvarovite, and andradite. Garnets form in the cubic, or isometric, system--they form geometric shapes.
Care Notes: Garnets display a range of chemical properties, and hardness varies between 6.5-7.5. They are relatively hard and resistant to breakage.
-----
Healing Keywords: Garnet is most often associated with grounding and physical health and vitality.
