Mineral Name: Garnet var. Spessartine
Locality: Navegadora Claim, Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Dimensions: 0.50" x 0.42" (13mm x 11mm)
Characteristics of this specimen: Navegadora Mine made the headlines when a huge cavity revealed tens of tons of high grade albite and quartz crystals, which held nearly 100 kg of amazingly beautiful, lustrous etched spessartine garnets. (The mindblowing etchings were originally thought to have been growth formations, but were eventually determined to be a result of etching. Etching likely occurred after the crystals formed in once-closed chemical zones, which then apparently opened to fluids from host rock and other consolidated chemical zones.) This miniature specimen is an amazingly aesthetic example from this well-known locality, and would appeal to collectors or jewelry artisans of any experience level!
Healing Keywords: Garnet is associated with vitality, grounding, strength, and fidelity. Spessartine garnet is associated with sexuality and creativity.
