Characteristics of this specimen: Natural diamond octahedral crystal, with a soft golden-cream hue and high luster.

Diamond forms in the cubic system, which means it naturally forms geometric shapes such as cubes, dodecahedrons, and most commonly for diamonds, octahedra. This unique form of pure carbon owes its extreme hardness (resistance to scratching) to extremely strong chemical bonds. Natural colors are typically white, gold, brown, and rarely other fancy colors.

Care Notes: Diamond crystals are the hardest naturally occuring material on earth, but are capable of cleavage (breaking along growth planes).
