Characteristics of this specimen: Botryoidal wavellite stands out against darker matrx--there is a complete globular growth on the face, and a smaller partial growth on the back.
Wavellite is a unique phosphate mineral, that is known for its beautiful radiating and botryoidal growth habits. Wavellite grows in association with variscite and crandallite in aluminum-rich metamorphic rocks, in hydrothermal zones and phosphate-rich rock deposits. Its best known locality is the Mt. Ida area of Arkansas.
