Care Notes: Pyrite should be kept out of the elements, as it can oxidize and even rust when exposed to air and weathering.
FORMATION: Pyrite is an iron sulfide minerals, aka fool’s gold. Pyrite forms characteristic cubic (isometric) crystal habits, including cubes and octahedra. Navajun is a classic Spanish locality for pyrite—the cubic clusters are sourced from the area of what was once a medieval town, where inhabitants knew of and collected the golden cubes also. Considered one of the world’s premier localities for pyrite.
