Rainbow Moonstone is a stone that is equally valued by healing collectors and lovers of beautiful gems. It displays flashes of blue and rainbow light which is known as adularescence--the visual phenomenon is compared to the quality of a cloud of color floating over the top of the stone. It is this quality of light that the Rainbow variety of Moonstone, or Adularia Moonstone, is named for. The moonstone is named for its resemblance to moonlight--it's not from the moon! Rather, this feldspar variety is found throughout the world, especially very high quality stones from India.

This particular piece is curved and beautiful stone with near-transparency in some areas. The stone itself is a translucent white shade, and displays bright flashes of multiple colors across its face! This is a very high quality example of this gem! The pendant features a unique and slightly freeform oversized teardrop shape, with a highly polished surface and simple sterling silver setting. It is a very large and graphic piece, and would make a lovely addition to your jewelry collection!

PHYSICAL: Moonstone is a member of the feldspar group, and may belong to more than one variety of feldspar (orthoclase and oligoclase, and may be a mix of both.) Adularia Moonstone displays the play of light known as adularescence, but other varieties of moonstone do not, or may display a partial play of color or sheen. Moonstone forms commonly in association with minerals like black Biotite mica and blue Tourmaline, and can be found in many locations around the world. Many of the highest quality moonstones, like the one in this pendant, are sourced from India.
HEALING: Moonstone is connected to divine feminine energy, and is associated with intuition and insight. It is said that rainbow moonstones were worn by the priestesses of Avalon, which enhances its reputation for goddess energy and connection. It is also said that moonstones protect the wearer during journeys, particularly if the wearer is of the female persuasion.

Care for gemstones in sterling silver jewelry:

As with all natural stones set in silver, these jewelry pieces should be removed when taking a shower, swimming, or entering a hot springs. Water (especially hot water) can damage natural materials and even cause settings to fail. This is especially true with gemstone rings!

*Though many gems and minerals have historical and cultural associations with healing properties, these items are sold for wear in jewelry, display, study, and collector interest only.
