Mineral Name: Azurite (blue) and Malachite (green)
Locality: Kerrouchene, Khenifra Province, Morocco
Dimensions: 0.69" x 0.46" (18mm x 12mm)
Characteristics of this specimen: Azurite and malachite have intergrown in this natural, organic specimen. The shades vary from navy blue to ultramarine, sage to brightest green. Oxides may be present. Habits vary from fibrous to botryoidal, and may have velvety or rough textures.
Azurite and malachite are copper bearing minerals, which form in primary and secondary zones of copper deposits. As with all metallic minerals, they should be kept out of the elements and away from water. Malachite in particular, should not be inhaled or used internally.
