This is a rich and super sparkly specimen: a substantial cluster of "black" amethyst stalactites on matrix, from Uruguay. This deeply shaded piece features vertical stalactites surrounded by druzy chalcedony, growing off of a curved geode cluster. This large and substantial specimen has a unique structure, and a super glamorous appearance. It would look equally beautiful displayed flat, as shown, or upright on a stand.
Uruguayan amethyst is somewhat less well-known than that of Brazil, but Uruguay is now producing some of the world's most beautiful specimens. Uruguayan amethyst has a characteristic bright yet rich shade, which varies from bright lilac to deepest royal purple. "Black" amethyst is actually chalcedony stalactites, that have taken on a rich grey or black hue.
*NOTE: Amethyst and chalcedony should not be displayed for prolonged periods in sunlight, as its color can fade.
